San Francisco is known to produce young tech millionaires and their geeky toys. Evan Spiegel has now launched one of his own. The CEO of Snapchat, now renamed Snap Inc., wants to start a trend of clicking circular POV 10 second videos.

Is this the next big thing in videos? Why square videos and pictures? Why not circular?

Snap Inc’s Spectacle is a chic looking sunglass camera starts that recording with a tap and stops in 10 seconds. To record again, you need to tap again. Pretty simple.

It records a circular videos, like normal human vision because Spiegel thinks that rectagles are an unnecessary vestige of printing photos on sheets of paper. Yeah, who needs to print photographs anymore?

Benefits are obvious- hands-free, first-person-perspective recording. Also, no need to point a camera/mobile on someone’s face. Spectacle would be non-obtrusive and thus, should be able to capture natural reactions of people at all places.

At this point in time, it’s difficult to gather how serious Spiegel is about the product and its market since he himself refers to it as a ‘toy’. At a price of $129.99 if it is fashionable and comfortable to wear with decent video quality, we think it might just be the next big thing.

Let’s wait and watch.
